As we were, as we are

The project ‘As we were, as we are’ is a tribute to the people around me; men and women from my hometown Ravenstein and the surrounding area. They determine what my world looks like.

There is no such thing as ordinary people because everybody has a history and carries a story with them. With the photographs in this project I try to visualize those stories. I therefore see the project ‘As we were, as we are’ as a Hall of Fame of life.

The images in this project, like many of the photos I create, are characterized by their purity. People are portrayed sitting at a table in front of a dark background. The table enables people to sit in a position they are familiar with. This familiarity is represented in the portraits.

As a photographer, I am specialized in making portraits with character. People are captured the way they are and I try to reach the point where you can see their soul. If you take someone out of his environment and isolate him without the things that create distractions, you get portraits in which you can see that every person is special.

Achievements with this project:
– ‘Silver Master’ in the Master Photographers Network (MPN) (October 2013)
– ‘Best Portfolio Award’ MPN (2013)
– ‘Best Portfolio Award’ Professional Imaging (PI) (2014)
– Publication in Focus Magazine (June 2014)
